September was calm. October is… not. But full of exciting things.
This month, as part of a long-standing campaign to not be terrified by contemporary music, I’ll be making a guest appearance with exciting young orchestra the Melos Sinfonia, to play the viola da gamba part in George Benjamin’s opera Written on Skin. Actually, I’m thrilled – it’s an amazing piece and so beautifully written for the instrument. Performances in Cambridge, London and St Petersburg: more details here
In the middle of all that, I’m returning to Augsburg and to more familiar musical territory – Senfl, Isaac and friends with a wonderful group of singers and instrumentalists. It’s also the first professional outing for my new soundpost-less renaissance viol (see here for more on that instrument).
And at the end of the month – two of my favourite Bach cantatas, at home in Basel – BWV 82 Ich habe genüg and BWV 170 Vergnügte Ruh with our house ensemble, Combassal and a special guest from Montreal. More details and a proper post on this project later in the month, along with news of CD releases and other things…
